Students retain information better when they actively participate. While traditional education relies on passive absorption, experiential approaches demand direct involvement. Research published in Nature links project-based learning to higher academic achievement, finding a high effect size for overall outcomes and a moderate effect specifically in mathematics.

The Learning Standard has catalogued 99 apps in the Experiential Learning category. We have not formally evaluated these products yet, though our reviews are currently rolling out. To help parents and educators identify tools in the meantime, we track industry certifications.

Sixteen apps in our database hold the Common Sense: Privacy certification, and 15 have the ISTE Seal. Ten apps hold the ICEIE: Effectiveness & Efficacy certification. Interoperability credentials appear less frequently. Five apps carry the 1EdTech: Interoperability credential, and 4 use the Project Unicorn: Interoperability mark.

A few products accumulate several of these credentials. SmartLab and Wix Tomorrow Classroom have 5 certifications each. Apple Learning Coach, GoReact, and iBlocks each hold 3.

Educational applications often lack formal evaluation guidelines (ResearchGate). We use certification metrics to establish a baseline of quality until our team finishes independent evaluations and updates these records.
