Twelve early-stage Kenyan startups will receive up to $100,000 in equity-free funding through an 18-month education technology initiative. Supported by innovation hub iHUB and the Mastercard Foundation, the program aims to help learners who are often left behind. This cohort focuses on students with disabilities, refugees, and girls in rural communities.

According to the TechCabal report, this fourth cohort prioritizes younger startups with specialized solutions. Six of the selected companies, including DEAFHEALTH, AssistiveMath, Signvrse, Deaf Outreach Program, SmartSteamMinds Edtech, and Chipurobo, build learning tools, digital skills modules, and assistive technologies for students with physical or cognitive disabilities. Another group, which includes Neurollect Audread, JUZA AI LTD, Ubuntu Universe Limited, and RYEH CBO, develops offline and AI-driven products for displaced and rural learners. Gwiji for Women and Tausi App focus on vocational and digital skills for young women. Previous cohorts reached 700,000 learners and 11,000 teachers across 2,100 schools, but organizers now want to focus on deep local impact instead of broad scale.
The Bigger Picture
Simply giving students laptops and software rarely improves grades.
